Battle of the Books
The second annual Joseph Charter School "Battle of the Books" will be held in the Joseph cafeteria on March 15, 2018. We are lucky enough to have snagged the Trivia Master himself, Jacob Losby to be our Master of Ceremonies! There will be a chili feed ($5/person or $10 for family), that will include chili, cornbread and a brownie starting at 5:30, followed by the battle at 6:00.
Students in 2-6 grade have been reading their books and preparing since the beginning of January. Each grade level reads 4 selected books and then breaks up into teams to answer questions in a "jeopardy" type format. The students are very excited about the books that they are reading and it has been fun to watch them as they laugh through the funny ones and sometimes cry through the sad ones.
This year one of the books the 4th through 6th graders are reading is the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This book is about a boy with severe facial deformation, who after many years of being home schooled, joins a mainstream middle school. This book has many themes and really helps kids think about what it means to be different and what compassion, acceptance and friendship look like. It has been a powerful book for our students to read, and has a lot of them talking - which is awesome to witness! It will be fun to see how a shared book and mixed teams will look for this years battle.
This should prove to be a fun family event! We hope to see everyone there!
