State FCCLA Results!

Joseph Charter School FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) took 17 members to this year’s state convention April 5th-7th in Portland, OR. The group was accompanied by JCS Principal, Sherri Kilgore and chapter parents Jeanie Story and Kim Tingelstad. Isabelle Tingelstad and Johnelle Suto served as state Vice President of Peer Education and Secretary for the 2015-2016 year. The theme for this year’s conference was, “Unleash your Potential”. As a state wide project members raised money for the Shriner's Children Hospital by bidding on a state officers to pie them in the face. As a result approximately $120 was raised.

At the opening session, the key note speaker, Patrick Grady gave a motivational speech along with entertaining the group with a hypnotist show. During the conference, students were able to tour the Wheat Marketing Center and the DoubleTree Hotel food services operation.

Fifteen students competed in STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) Events earning the following medals: Receiving gold and qualifying for nationals is the group of T.J. Grote, Emma Hite, and Kade Kilgore in the Illustrated Talk Jr. category, and the group of Johnelle Suto and Annie Story in the Illustrated Talk Sr. category.

Receiving silver and qualifying for nationals is Natalie Williams in Career Investigation Sr., the group of Money Walters, Renee Seal, and Tori Suto competing in Chapter Service Project Display Sr., the group of Kana Oliver, Tyler Homan, and Annie Duncan in Chapter Service Project Portfolio Sr., the group of Madison Bailey and Haven Johnson in Environmental Ambassador Sr. and Tucker VanWinkle in the Job Interview Sr. category.

Tucker VanWinkle, Annie Story, and Renee Seal were elected to the state FCCLA offices of Vice President of Development, Vice President of Peer Education, and Vice President of Membership respectively for the 2016-2017 school year.
